Dando continuidade a uma semana que começou com uma gripe dispensável, briguinha idem e desempenho acadêmico pífio, ontem perdi meu iPod. Na verdade, não deixa de ser surpreendente que eu só o tenha perdido agora, dada a minha incrível capacidade de semear guardas-chuvas e óculos de sol pelo mundo. Meu único consolo, muito mais efetivo que os tradicionais “foi bom enquanto durou” e “você compra outro, nem é tão caro”, é que o eventual felizardo que descobrir a geringoncinha, se tiver ouvidos de ouvir, deparar-se-á com o melhor setlist que reuni num iPod nos últimos tempos.

Começa que está lá o disco que me fez chorar pela primeira vez este ano. Eu já conhecia bastante bem Aretha Franklin em versões gospel, início de carreira e greatest hits – todos eles discos indispensáveis para mim. Mas nada que pudesse me preparar para a Aretha das versões cruas, acompanhada apenas por um piano trio que torna muito mais visível a dimensão jazzística das suas interepretações. Poucas faixas trazem backing vocals e nenhuma que eu tenha ouvido até agora traz a tradicional seção de metais. O engraçado é que, a princípio, quem em sã consciência poderia ser contra um trio de metais num arranjo de um clássico do soul? Aí você tira os metais e vê que não só não fazem a menor falta como a Aretha preenche os espaços por eles deixados de forma muito mais interessante. Mas o interesse do disco vai além. Se você conhece os hits tão bem quanto eu, necessariamente confrontará esta versão de I Never Loved A Man com a que ganhou o mundo, a Aretha que sai da caixa de som contracenando com a Aretha da sua memória musical. O verbo contracenar não está aqui à toa: Aretha pertence ao universo das cantoras-atrizes, que apenas tangencia os universos das cantoras-musicistas e cantoras-narradoras. Quer dizer. A maioria dos intérpretes vocais passeia um pouquinho por cada universo. Aretha Franklin é fundamentalmente atriz, por mais que seja também uma das grandes musicistas do século que passou. Qualquer hora eu desenvolvo melhor essa minha tríplice teoria de araque.
Depois, Amina Figarova, sobre quem já falei e cujo Come Escape With Me cada vez mais me parece um disco-resposta a The Prisoner e todo aquele maravilhoso momento da carreira do Herbie Hancock (ouve se não é).
Seguimos com André Fernandes, que em alguns momentos é o próprio Pat Metheny português (vide balada). Mas vocês devem desconsiderar completamente essa minha impressão viciada, já que o myspace do moço não tem nem uminha referência que seja a nada que se aproxime do mundo onopat. Esta gravação é particularmente bonita porque fica bem no meio do caminho entre o PMG e os PM trios. Começa que esses teminhas folk simplérrimos com violão de aço e piano me fisgam imediatamente – ainda mais com o Laginha de pianista, que é desses caras geneticamente incapazes de tocar uma nota feia. Ele é esperto o bastante para começar inofensivamente com notinhas esparsas e aos poucos ir preenchendo tudo o que tem direito. Então, na frente, você tem o Pat Metheny Group, com Pat & Lyle peninsulares. Mas o baixista é de fato um baixista de jazz, muito mais para Larry Grenadier que para Steve Rodby. E, sobretudo, o baterista usa vassourinha na caixa, coisa que não se vê todo dia no Pat Metheny Group.
Mas esse é um tema diferente do restante do disco. Imagine um fusion meets Radiohead meets música brasileira maluca dos anos 70 (Hermeto & Airto, basicamente). Talvez esse clima seja devido em boa parte aos timbres utilizados – guitarra com distorção leve e algum reverb e, principalmente, rhodes. Curiosa e felizmente, porém, o som não é datado nem revisionista, olhando sempre para o futuro – com as harmonias e os vocais que me lembram Theo Bleckmann. Acho que deu para perceber que estou me divertindo bastante com o mais novo guitarrista favorito do blog.
A programação segue com Carla Bley, que revolucionou todo um mapa mental que eu tinha perfeitamente montadinho na minha cabeça. Assim: Dorival Caymmi e Joni Mitchell são os meus grandes mestres da fala na música. Com isso não me refiro (apenas) às letras que eles escrevem, mas à incrível capacidade de traduzir em frases melódicas a fala cotidiana de suas respectivas línguas – e, nesta capacidade, o uso de palavras adequadas é apenas mais um elemento. Tanto “você já foi à Bahia, nega, não? Então vá!” como “sittin’ in a park in Paris, France, reading the news and it sure looks bad” (ou, literalmente, centenas de outros exemplos), comunicam precisamente a musicalidade da fala de alguém que está se dirigindo diretamente a você. E nisso, repito, as palavras são apenas um detalhe. A grande prova disso é que o mesmo efeito é conseguido por gente que não trabalha elas. As composições do quarteto europeu do Keith Jarrett – principalmente as do disco My Song e, dentre elas, principalmente The Journey Home – também dizem tudo. São pessoas falando o que você encontra ali (por exemplo, nesta frase)- há essa qualidade conversacional sem páreo na música popular instrumental. Quer dizer, isso é o que eu achava até a semana passada. Até ouvir The Lost Chords Find Paolo Fresu. Ouçam este tema e me digam se não tenho razão de reconfigurar meu mapa mental. E digo mais: nem a desafinadinha do trompete compromete nada. Se Elis podia dizer que a aranha “duvido que tece”, Paolo Fresu também tem o direito de desafinar.
Passamos ao último disco do standards trio do Keith Jarrett, tão bom quanto o Whisper Not e possivelmente superior ao Tribute. Temos aqui um You’ve changed que meus amigos (eu não: sou uma moça direita) qualificariam como gozo na tanga, e um Sleepin’ Bee que é impossível não lembrar do Bill Evans, principalmente no finzinho da exposição do tema e no começo do improviso de piano .
O último disco a preencher o iPod é o Nonada, de Tutty Moreno e Forças D’Alma (agora com Teco Cardoso!), minha banda brasileira preferida. Vou fazer uma comparação ousada (ainda bem que o blog é meu e ninguém lê). Esta banda, em verdade vos digo, esta banda faz com os standards brasileiros o que o Brad Mehldau trio faz com os do pop. E vejam que bonito isso e isso aqui. Tudo bem que uma música é em 3 e a outra é em 5, e a introdução do André é muito mais livre ritmicamente que a do gringo. Mas, putz, quando entram baixo e bateria, caramba – é exatamente o mesmo clima. Lindo demais, nos dois casos. Não acham?

Na verdade, no iPod tinha um disquinho a mais, mas nesse eu sempre metia a mão no ffwd depois de um minuto de música, então não conta. É de um pianista que é um gênio e tals (essa é daquelas declarações bombásticas que pessoas confiáveis fazem e você não tem nenhum motivo para duvidar). Meu problema com essa música é que o cara não se decidiu entre fazer música bonita e música interessante. De minha parte, minhas grandes referências, como até as caterpillars de New Orleans sabem, são Tom Jobim e Pat Metheny. Então não tem nem o que dizer, né. Música bonita é a minha praia. Mas música interessante também tem o seu lugar na minha vida. Eu só acho chato quando o cara não se decide no que quer fazer e acaba fazendo música que obviamente não tem nada de boba, mas também não tem nada que me fisgue por lado nenhum. Nem bem é uma música que faça uso de harmonias ousadas e lindas, nem assume o lado free de vez. Eu realmente não entendo, não capto, não me comovo. Andrew Hill, até agora, não é para mim – mas, como não sou de fechar portas facilmente, estou aceitando sugestões de discos dele.

Há uns vinte anos atrás, quando você era menina ainda, só tinha K-7 nos carros. Então quando roubavam o carro e as fitas junto era um drama muito maior, porque a gente perdia fitas que tinha gravado de um amigo que tinha aquele disco importado e tal. Um caos para recuperar. Perder o iPod é só comprar outro, baixar as músicas do computador e um abraço.

Nem precisa ir tão longe: antes do advento dos CD-Rs, quem levava CDs originais no carro também corria um risco considerável (e sim, já ouvi muita fita cassete na vida). Eu mesma, às vezes, levava o equivalente a 500 reais em CDs no carro. Aliás, ter a coleção de CDs roubada é muito pior que perder o carro em si, que isso o seguro cobre. Perto dos CDs, sem dúvida que a perda do iPod não é grave.

Oi, Camila. Espero que não precise perder um ipod novamente para nos distribuir tantas e tão simpáticas dicas. O meu ipod foi um companheiro de viagem maravilhoso, durante uma travessia da Itália e dos Bálcãs que fiz anos atrás. 50% do prazer da viagem esteve nas imagens, tomadas das janelas dos trens e das caminhadas, fundidas a sons tão especiais para mim quanto esses para os seus. Desejo que tenha ainda muitas paisagens sonoras nessa vida. E nunca vi uma mulher escrever sobre música assim como você. Beijos.

Camila, você parece ter entendido meu comentário como “masculinista” ou coisa parecida, quanto a mulheres sentindo e escrevendo sobre música. Daí, talvez, ter usado a palavra “capacidade” (de falar, ouvir, tocar…). “Capacidade” está muito longe do que disse e penso sobre o que me parece ser uma diferença entre homens e mulheres nesse particular. E que não tem nada a ver com maiores e menores “capacidades’, e sim sobre maneiras diferentes de sentir e se interessar pela música. Penso, cá comigo, e sem querer explicar demais ou defender teses, que há maneiras diferentes de sentir sim, e que essas diferenças se fazem sentir também entre homens e mulheres. Seja isso cultural, ou não. Mas não gostaria que você tomasse como ofensivo, depreciativo, ou coisa que o valha. Porque realmente não foi por aí.

E, além disso, sim, eu entendi que sua intenção foi elogiosa (aliás, nada mais comum que a dificuldade de reconhecer um preconceito em nós mesmos quando nossa intenção consciente ao fazer tal ou qual afirmação foi inteiramente diferente). Uma coisa não invalida a outra. Eu só gostaria de lhe fazer uma sugestão. Pergunte a si mesmo se você diria a um blogueiro que “nunca viu um homem escrever assim como ele”. Essa afirmação faz algum sentido para você? Se sim, então não tenho a menor ideia do que você está falando. Se não. Pois é. Vale dizer também que a Aline aceitou minha provocação e listou possíveis respostas ao enigma da mulher que escreve (bem) sobre música. :-)

Camila, eu já estava conformado em achar que você tinha se aborrecido a ponto de nem mais postar minha resposta. Ainda bem que estava errado. Legal você responder e me dar a oportunidade de esclarecer melhor. Sobre a pergunta que você sugere que eu faça a mim mesmo, indagando se eu diria que “nunca viu um homem escrever assim como ele”: não, eu não diria isso para ele. Mas repare que tem um detalhe, uma diferença sutil: eu não disse que “nunca vi uma mulher escrever assim”, mas sim, “nunca vi uma mulher escrever assim sobre música”. Isso faz a diferença porque a sua provocação subentende um parêntesis, que seria o escrever (assim tão bem) sobre música. E esse “tão bem”, que supõe uma qualidade que seria, digamos, “superior, “melhor”, blabla, estava bem longe do que senti e pensei, quando escrevi.
Mas essa apreciação qualitativa pode estar, admito, tão implícita para quem me lê que esse alguém (ainda mais se calejado por outras manifestações de machismo explícito ou implícito) vai ler como o que a Aline entendeu, e postou no blog dela: “pra uma mulher você até que X muito bem” (http://ateaquitudobem.blogspot.com/2009/04/de-cada-coisa-que-gente-tem-que-ouvir.html).
Onde é que está esse “pra uma mulher você até que você escreve muito bem”? Está, claro, na cabeça da Aline. Está, provavelmente, na sua. Está, certamente, na de muita gente. Não estava no meu texto e não está, até onde eu posso perceber, nem na minha cabeça nem no meu coração. Pelo menos até eu conseguir escarafunchar tão fundo para encontrar o grãozinho que sussurrou “pra uma mulher você até que você escreve muito bem” no meu texto. E que vocês ouviram e eu não.
O que posso fazer? Como homem, não posso ignorar décadas e séculos e milênios de machismo. Não posso culpar vocês de terem lido mais do que eu escrevi e, acredito, além do que senti e pensei. Os parêntesis e complementos não ditos estão vagando por aí, e às vezes falam mais alto do que eu.
Para encerrar, pois já ficou muito grande. Sim, eu acho que as mulheres na sua maioria sentem a música diferente dos homens. Nem melhor, nem pior, nem etc. Diferente. Isso pela minha parquíssima experiência ao lado delas, sempre ouvindo muita música e conversando sobre. E as que se dispõem a botar em letras o que sentem, da maneira que você, Camila, põe, não são muitas. Para ser mais preciso, lembro que a jornalista, crítica de MPB, que eu muito lia, e de quem mais gostava, era a Ana Maria Bahiana, que escrevia barbaramente bem. Mas você escreve sobre jazz e instrumentais em geral, destacando detalhes das gravações, comparando versões, de forma que não conheci outras mulheres escrevendo. Mesmo a Bahiana escrevia diferente, além de que sobre outro estilo musical. Eu teria mais elogios a fazer, mas vou te poupar, até para que não pareça que estou tentando “compensar” meu suposto machismo.
Terminando mesmo: eu conheço literatura um pouquinho só, e ouço e leio muita gente boa (mulheres e homens) falar de estilos, jeitos de escrita, que têm a ver com o sexo, e a sensibilidade, no caso feminina, de quem escreve. Por exemplo, dizem isso quanto à Clarice Lispector, à Adélia Prado. Não sou eu quem digo. Mas ouço. E nunca ouvi dessas pessoas que as escritoras citadas escrevem “tão bem como se fossem… etc”, ou que “escrevendo nem parecem… etc.”. Reconhecer a sensibilidade diferente, especial, não implica achar ela inferior e nem ser depreciativo quanto ao gênero como um todo. Desculpe se me estendi. Um abraço de quem te respeita.

Helion, seu comentário ficou preso no anti-spam, por isso demorou um pouco a ser postado. Quanto ao seu comentário inicial, que gerou a interpretação da Aline “pra uma mulher você até que X muito bem” (que, aliás, também é a minha), reconheço ter cometido um equívoco na minha resposta: atribuí o preconceito expresso na frase à psicologia do autor, quando isso é o que menos importa. De fato, não importa nada para a presente discussão que você tenha feito um cuidadoso escrutínio do seu coração e não tenha encontrado nada de preconceituoso ali. O que importa é a sua afirmação – que, goste você disso ou não, vem carregada de pressupostos que não podem ser ignorados só porque você não teve a intenção. Na verdade, o pressuposto básico é esse que você mesmo afirma: que mulheres e homens pensam e sentem música de formas diferentes. O grande problema desse pressuposto é que, por mais que você deseje do fundo da sua alma que ele seja igualitário, que não haja uma hierarquia aí, que mulheres e homens sejam diferentes e só, a hierarquia sempre está implícita. O diferente da mulher sempre é pior que o diferente do homem. Tanto é assim que a existência de uma mulher que escreve bem sobre música vai contra todas as expectativas e causa espanto, a tal ponto que é preciso chamar a atenção para o seu gênero. Vamos a um exemplo. É muito comum a gente ler que Joni Mitchell é a melhor compositora mulher de todos os tempos. Curiosamente, nunca disseram ao Bob Dylan que ele era o melhor compositor homem de sua geração. Ele é compositor, e isso basta – não é necessário assinalar que ele é homem. O mesmo se aplica à sua tentativa de elogio. Você disse que minha sugestão de pergunta tinha uma diferença sutil porque você afirmou “nunca vi uma mulher escrever assim sobre música”. Na verdade, o complemento do verbo é irrelevante, pois não se trata de averiguar a quantidade empírica de mulheres que escrevem sobre música – pouco importa para os propósitos desta discussão que você só conheça outra escritora-sobre-música que admira além de mim. Vou sugerir a pergunta de novo. Você diria a um blogueiro que escreve sobre música “nunca vi um homem escrever assim sobre música”? Este é o ponto. Por que o gênero é algo importante e digno de nota quando se tem uma mulher escrevendo sobre música, e quando o escritor é homem isso passa batido? É só para isso que eu estava chamando a atenção. Camila, acho que vai ser a última tentativa de me explicar. A qual você merece porque, como já disse, admiro sua escrita e suas opiniões. Você diz que o complemento “escrever SOBRE MÚSICA” é irrelevante. E insiste em que “uma mulher que escreve BEM sobre música” iria contra as minhas expectativas. Só que esse “BEM” não é irrelevante. Porque foi ele que eu jamais disse, e que insistem em pendurar na minha fala. Já sei: não disse mas estava implícito – só que assim não precisaríamos nem discutir; bastaria confrontar meus “implícitos” aos seus, e tudo estaria resolvido. Eu nem precisaria dizer nada, pois você já saberia o que eu “no fundo” penso.
Conversei um pouco também, você deve ter lido, no outro blog que você linkou. Mas também lá parece irremovível a idéia de que eu no fundo dizia que você escreve “tão bem quanto” um homem. O que não é – insisto pela última vez – verdade. Até a “alma feminina” foi mencionada, e nada poderia estar mais distante do que penso sobre a vida e as pessoas.
O que eu procurei ressaltar, sem sucesso, foi que a sua escrita sugeria uma escuta diferenciada da que costumo perceber nas demais mulheres. Nada de “tão bem quanto”, ou “nem parece uma…”, ou de hierarquias ocultas. Apenas pensei perceber uma especificidade, ligada a gênero sim, mas voltada à diferença, não à hierarquia. Talvez, se eu tivesse a chance de elaborar um pouco mais, a percepção dessa especificidade pudesse até render um bom papo, desde que entre pessoas que amam a música e estão desarmadas para se escutar e, quem sabe, rever as próprias opiniões. Eu estaria disposto a medir essa minha opinião tão “impressionista” com uma pessoa inteligente e bem informada sobre música como você.
Mas esse papo não vai acontecer. Se eu estou sendo considerado, a priori, um supremacista que hierarquiza os pontos de vista das pessoas a partir de seus gêneros, se nas minhas frases está sendo enxertada, à força, a afirmação do “tão bem como um homem”, é claro que não vai rolar. É pena. Mas acho que entendo. Um abraço.

Óbvio que não escolhi a primeira frase à toa. A Camila, que já me conhece um pouco, sabe que o fato de eu usá-la para discutir machismos implícitos/explícitos é, na melhor das hipóteses, uma boutade, e na pior, um achincalhe mesmo. Mas, passada a chacota, volto à tal frase das “mulheres escrevendo assim sobre música” e te garanto uma coisa: a sua boa intenção não ajudou a amenizar o ranço da frase, sinto muito. E digo mais: se eu mesmo não tivesse explicitado a minha vontade de fazer troça do tema usando a frase da honestidade da mulher de César, para (ao mesmo tempo) discuti-lo, daria margem a que até a Camila, com todos os papos que já tivemos, considerasse que eu eu “não sou e nem pareço honesta“, chacrinhisticamente falando…
Pode parecer estranho, mas às vezes é preciso “explicar a piada”, porque nem sempre ela parece piada. E é aqui que entra o contexto, composto não apenas do assunto em questão, mas de quem o debate, quais as circunstâncias ao seu redor, e além de tudo, como o tal assunto é discutido. Complicado? Claro, sem a menor dúvida! Mas vale uma dica: convém, em qualquer debate, que alguns tipos de frase/tema/piada etcoetera sejam proferidos em determinado ambiente apenas quando quem as diz já esteja minimamente “ambientado”, sendo razoavelmente conhecido pelos que “frequentam o lugar”, que assim saberão quando o que foi dito “é e parece honesto”, só para aproveitar a piada ruim mais uma vez…

Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

Hi I am trying to preview articles from blogger on a separate site, where the most recent article would show up and could link to the blog itself. I have googled enough and read about rss. I can code html, xml etc. I would really appreciate any help.

I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

Thanks for the sensible critique. Me & my neighbor were just preparing to do some research about this. We got a grab a book from our area library but I think I learned more clear from this post. I am very glad to see such magnificent info being shared freely out there.
